The DuSable Bridge – Michigan Ave Bridge
The place where Michigan Ave crosses the Chicago river!
The DuSable Bridge so called “Michigan Ave Bridge” is located on N. Michigan Ave and E. Wacker Drive in Near North Side neighborhood.
It’s very easy to forget the history behind the bridge while looking up at Chicago’s tall buildings. But I must say, you should know the history, architect and civil engineering of the DuSable Bridge.
It’s an example of Beaux Arts bridge design.
There was not always a bridge on Michigan Ave on Chicago River. In 1909, Plan of Chicago recommended to connect Michigan Ave to north of the river, which was completed in 1920.
It was one of the later bridges built across the main branch of the Chicago River.
