Irazu Costa Rican Restaurant Chicago
Named after the active volcano “Irazu” in Costa Rica, restaurant is serving authentic Costa Rican dishes in Chicago.
I visited Irazu Costa Rican restaurant for lunch, but I must say it is perfect place for dinner. It is located on the intersection of Milwaukee Ave and N Oakely Ave in Bucktown neighborhood. Irazu restaurant doesn’t have onsite parking but it was easy to find street parking.
I loved the restaurant decor, featuring key areas of the Costa Rica. I loved the great energetic ambiance at the restaurant, it was very live with loud Spanish music.
Irazu restaurant’s menu is mainly focused on Costa Rican dishes including Empanadas, Tacos, Burritos and Soups. They are also offering many vegetarian dishes. I have been to Costa Rica two times, during my visit to Costa Rica, I kind of liked their local flavors! I am glad that I came across Irazu restaurant in Chicago!
Make sure to bring cash if you decide to enjoy Costa Rican food at Irazu. Yes Irazu is cash only, BYOB restaurant!
At Irazu, we ordered Chicken Casado and Vegetarian Burrito! Casado is one of the famous Costa Rican dishes. Service was pretty quick, our food arrived in short time, but if you decide to go for dinner then you may have to wait little longer.
Casado is an authentic Costa Rican dish made using beef, Chicken or tilapia fish with rice, black beans, fried sweet plantains and egg. It came with salad too. Casado was made perfectly with fresh ingredients.
Vegetarian burrito is made with usual ingredients, black beans, rice, cheese, lettuce, tomato, avocado and sour cream, which you can customized by adding sautéed mushrooms, spinach, zucchini or sweet plantain for extra $1 each.
Next time I visit, their Chicken El Tico and oatmeal shake are on my list!
Overall, very good Costa Rican food and portions for the price! Like Costa Rican locals, I would say perfect “Pura Vida” experience!
Irazu is located at 1865 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL
