Perfect Mexican restaurant close to my work in Jefferson Park. I always passed by Mom’s old recipe Mexican restaurant on my way to work, but I never stopped by for lunch or dinner. Today was the slowest day at work due to long Memorial day weekend so thought of taking a long late lunch around at 1 pm. I must say, my lucky day for food !!!!

Place is amazing, may be it was long weekend or may be because I was late for lunch, so it was not too crowded. I loved the ambiance of the place, kind of environment I felt at restaurants in Cancun during my vacation. Great Spanish music, and warm friendly welcome to the place. I must say, guest service is A++ at Mom’s old recipe Mexican restaurant.
We were served with authentic Mexican hot sauce, called Chile de arbol, with crispy warm chips and sweet-n-spicy pickles. Chips dipped in Chile de arbol hot sauce, Oh man, I couldn’t eat enough !!!…. amazing! The creamy sauce is made with fried red hot pepper using authentic Mexican spices and ingredients, yum! …Smack yo mama!!!
We ordered Chicken enchiladas and vegetarian quesadilla, I was kind of curious about the taste of food after enjoying amazing Chile de arbol sauce, I had high hopes on food quality ! I think it was my lucky day on lunch, food turned out to be amazing!
When I say amazing food, that means it has to be extraordinary!. Presentation of the dishes were way better than what I was expecting. My chicken enchiladas were soft but not soggy!!! I must repeat, they were not SOGGY !!!… Most of the time, I got soft enchiladas at other restaurants, but they were soggy because either they were over steamed or over cooked, but these were the perfect enchiladas with perfectly cooked chicken, I ever had!!! I must say better than Uncle Julio or Salsa 17 restaurant.

I ordered Verdes Con Frijoles De Olla Enchiladas, made with green tomatillo sauce, romaine lettuce, red onion, sour cream, slices of avocado and covered with grated Mexican cheese. My enchiladas came with pinto beans soup on side. Yummy, everything was made to the perfection, kind of the authentic Mexican food you can get in Mexico !!!!
Vegetarian quesadillas were served with guacamole, perfectly cooked, crispy tortilla covered vegetables in Chihnahua cheese! Portion and quality were great !
Food portions are large enough for the price you are paying. My Enchiladas were on lunch special so I ended up paying $7.95 and $11.25 for quesadillas, I must say worth paying amount for the quantity and quality of the food at Mom’s Old Recipe Mexican restaurant.
There is nothing negative about the restaurant except drinks price. I felt that drinks prices are higher compared to other restaurants in the neighborhood. We paid $5 for Corona beer bottle. To me, it seems like over priced on lunch menu for the location. In my opinion, beer and drinks prices should be little lower than what they are right now. Other than that, I had no complain about Mom’s Old Recipe Mexican restaurant.
After having amazing Enchiladas and Quesadillas, I am tempted to try several other dishes in future at Mom’s Old Recipe restaurant.
