Old Irving Brewery in Irving Park

Old Irving Brewery in Irving Park

Old Irving Brewing Co, hidden gem in the neighborhood of Irving Park. Cozy brewery hidden inside brick warehouse building serving fine house brewed beers and dishes, of course I cannot forget that cozy gloomy ambiance to unwind and relax. Perfect gastropub!

I visited Old Irving Brewery for late lunch on Saturday. Place is amazing, from outside you will not get an idea what’s hidden inside but the moment you enter, it’s like you are completely in different world. I would say kind of reminded me my visit to Piece Pizza bar in Wicker Park.

Old Irving Brewing Co is located close to the Montrose train station on Blue line “L” station, so it’s very easy to get to the brewery from anywhere in the city. Finding a Parking spot was challenge, so be ready to spend some time finding a parking spot. Make sure not to park in neighborhood streets because they have permit parking.

At Old Irving Brewery there are plenty of seating available at the bar and in dining hall. We decided to sit at the bar. I couldn’t resist myself staring at those large brewery’s metal drums in background, complimented by brick walls interior, giving the industrial factory kind of ambiance. Feeling of being part of brewery was far beyond my imagination.

I must say, pretty cool place with good service. Bar tenders were very knowledgeable, attentive and making sure that everybody gets proper attention for their needs.

Place is very clean and tidy, and for some time, if I forget that how couple of bartenders were holding glasses from top of the glass with bare hands while serving water, then I would give thumbs up for a good guest service at Old Irving Brewery.

Old Irving Brewing offers seasonal house brew beers. Every few weeks their beer menu changes. I am kind of a person who like to try all different kinds of beer, so I decided to go for their flight of 6 different beers. Voila, I am glad I did that. It was my first time so I let bar tender pick the best ones from the menu.

Beer Flight from Old Irving Brewing Co Irving Park

We got from left in picture – Painted Nails (4.5%), Beezer (6.9%), Scentinel (7%), Guten Abend (4.5%), Lucky Linny (5%) and Liquid Jazz (6%). Among all, my favorites were – Liquid Jazz, Lucky Linny, Scentinel, and Beezer. It’s amazing how each beers are made using different ingredients.
Painted Nail – A Berliner Weisse loaded up with mango and then double dry hopped with Hallertau Blanc for more tropical punch.

Beezer – A DDH IPA hopped with Citra and Mosaic for flavors/aromas of tangerine, papaya and grapefruit.

Scentinel – An IPA brewed with Mosaic, Centennial and Citra. A simple, malty backbone combined with mostly late additions hops makes for balanced brew with tons of grapefruit, lychee and mango flavor and aroma.

Guten Abend – A German-style brown ale (Altbier) brewed with the same hops and yeast as our Kölsch, but with caramel malts. The caramel characteristics give way to a slightly heavier hop presence for a smooth, easy drinking Altbier.

Lucky Linny – A malty Irish Red Ale with a sturdy Centennial hop backbone for a smooth, low ABV brew that is sure to keep Lucky Linny smiling!

Liquid Jazz – This collab brew with Cruz Blanca Brewery is a Nitro Milk Stout brewed with Ecuadorian cocoa nibs, toasted coconut, and Guatemalan coffee from Backlot Coffee. Served on nitro for a smooth, creamy mouthfeel.

I liked their 64oz growler fill bottle offer, yes, you can order your favorite beer in growler fill bottle to go! This growler fill bottle cost $4 first time, plus the cost of beer that you choose. Next time you can bring back the growler fill bottle and save $4.

Veggie Sandwich from Old Irving Brewery in Irving Park

At Old Irving Brewing Co, food menu is focused on all American dishes that includes Sandwiches, Salads, Burgers, Wings and many similar on the table dishes. We ordered Veggie Sandwich and Spicy Chicken Sandwich for lunch.

Veggie Sandwich was made with layers of fresh ingredients between fresh slices of bread that included hummus, cucumber, watercress, grilled red onion, Havarti, tapenade, focaccia toast. It comes with salad but upon request they were kind enough to replace with fries.

Juicy Spicy Chicken Sandwich from Old Irving Brewery Chicago

Spicy Chicken Sandwich was great for my taste buds, it was made with crispy chicken thigh, wrapped between layers of arugula, Applewood smoked bacon, Valentina hot sauce, OIB Ranch, Sriracha bun, served with fries. It made me think of burgers from Patino’s Grill in Irving Park.

I must say food portions are large so if you are visiting Old Irving Brewery with group of people then you can order few dishes and share.

Old Irving Brewing Co is moderately expensive place where two can eat and drink for $$. Plus, you get the good portions of dishes for the money that you pay. So if you are not too hungry then chances are you will be looking for to go box.

Overall, Old Irving Brewery is one of the best breweries in Chicago to hangout and enjoy house brewed beers and good quality food. It’s the place where you can enjoy different kinds for beer flavors throughout the year.

Go for the flight of beers to taste all different house brewed beer flavors from the current beer menu! Brewery is all about tasting beers!
